What is ECAT?
ECAT (Engineering College Admission Test) is the entry test conducted by UET Lahore for admission to BSc engineering programmes at UET Lahore and its campuses, and several other Punjab engineering universities that accept its result.
Who takes it: FSc pre-engineering students (or ICS students taking the computer science option) applying to engineering programmes.

- Mathematics — FSc Part I and II: complex numbers, matrices, sequences, trigonometry, limits, differentiation, integration, conics, vectors
- Physics — FSc Part I and II: mechanics, waves, optics, thermodynamics, electricity, magnetism, modern physics
- Chemistry — FSc Part I and II: physical, inorganic and organic chemistry
- English — Grammar, error spotting, vocabulary and sentence correction
How to prepare with SmartPrep
- Take one test from each subject to find your weakest area.
- Go chapter by chapter in Mathematics and Physics: together they are 60 of the 100 questions.
- Do Chemistry next, then English (only 10 questions, but quick marks).
- Take the full-length ECAT mock tests (100 MCQs in the real 30/30/30/10 split) under the timer: about one minute per question.
- Because of negative marking, practise skipping questions you can't narrow down to two options.
5 preparation tips
- Learn the standard results (derivatives, integrals, trig identities) until you can use them without thinking.
- For numericals, write the formula and units first; most mistakes are unit slips.
- A wrong answer costs 1 mark and a right one gains 4, so answer when you can rule out at least two options.
- Revise from the Punjab FSc textbooks: ECAT questions follow their chapters closely.
- Keep a list of the questions you got wrong and redo them each week.
